QACRSPA 2018 Scholarship Recipients

Each year the QACRSPA sponsors a one thousand dollar scholarship at each high school for a graduating senior who is planning to pursue a career in education. This year's recipients are Gretchen Blackiston, Queen Anne's County High School, and Alexis Kelser, Kent Island High School. Those who attended our June luncheon were fortunate to meet Gretchen and Alexis.

Marie

Gretchen is enrolled at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, MD. majoring in education. She graduated from Queen Anne’s County High School with an excellent GPA and participated in several extra-curricular activities including Marching Band, National Honor Society and Future Educator’s Association.  One of her teacher’s described Gretchen as one of the “most intelligent, practical and motivated students I have had the good fortune to teach . . . she has exceeded expectations simply because of her intrinsic desire to excel.” In her own words, Gretchen says “I want to inspire children to become a better version of themselves.”

Alexis is attending Salisbury University working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She graduated from Kent Island High School with an impressive GPA and a long list of volunteer and work experiences.  She was also a member of the National Honor Society, International Thespian Society and National Technical Honors Society. She completed an internship her senior year with a third grade class and it was during this time that she definitely knew she wanted to be a teacher. Alexis says, “I work hard to follow my dreams of becoming an educator in a public school system. I am getting as much experience as I can to be the best teacher I can be.” She was motivated to go into education because she herself struggled in elementary school and “I do not want the children I teach to struggle like I did.”
The Queen Anne’s Retired School Personnel Association would like to congratulate these young women. We wish them the best in their future studies and as they pursue a career in education.
